New neighborhood in Maldonado transforms lives

The Maldonado Intendancy, in Uruguay, has completed an ambitious project that ended a settlement of over 60 years, giving rise to a new neighborhood for 530 families. The president of the republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, praised the work done, highlighting the importance of will and perseverance in this achievement.

Mayor Enrique Antía was emotional and celebrated this milestone, emphasizing that the new neighborhood not only improves living conditions but also promotes social integration and provides a safe and dignified environment for the families who lived in the old settlement of El Placer. Essential services such as a polyclinic, a school, a Childhood and Family Care Center (CAIF), and football fields will be built in this new space.

Antía emphasized that the success of this project was the result of collaboration between the national government, the involved financial institutions, and the local community. He highlighted that the commitment to relocate the families from El Placer was included in the government program and that the completion of this project in just two years was a dream come true.

Raúl Lozano, Minister of Housing, also participated in the ceremony and praised the work of the intendancy, as well as the investment in housing solutions for families in precarious settlements. The creation of this new neighborhood represents a significant advance in the fight against housing precariousness and in achieving a better quality of life for its residents.

In summary, the eradication of this old settlement and the construction of a new neighborhood in Maldonado is considered an important step towards the goal of "zero settlements" in the region and has been celebrated as a success both locally and nationally.
