Buenos Aires, December 27 (NA) -- A 44-year-old motorcyclist died instantly after violently colliding with a van driven by an Argentine citizen in the Playa Brava area of Punta del Este.
The accident occurred this Friday, around 14:00, at the intersection of stop 33 on Lorenzo Batlle Pacheco's rambla, when the larger vehicle was attempting to cross the roadway towards the coast and was struck on its side by the smaller vehicle.
The victim was identified as Néstor Daniel Rodríguez, a security guard and resident of Balneario Buenos Aires who, at the time of the fatal incident, was heading to his workplace in a nearby building.
According to police sources who spoke to the Argentine News Agency, preliminary reports and analysis of area security cameras indicate that the man was riding a Yamaha YZF-R3 motorcycle towards the resort's center when it collided with a Mercedes-Benz van with Argentine license plates.
Meanwhile, Uruguayan justice has ordered the necessary traffic accident investigations and the seizure of the incident's video, a material that "will be key to determining the legal responsibilities of the case" and clarifying the exact circumstances of the event.
According to the first investigations, the motorcyclist "failed to yield to the vehicle and impacted it directly on its side", which caused him to be thrown from the bike.
Despite the intervention of emergency units that arrived at the scene, doctors confirmed that the worker died on the spot, as "the force of the impact against the high-end vehicle was fatal" and the body was found several meters from the point of collision.
Meanwhile, the van's driver, a 34-year-old woman from Buenos Aires, was physically unharmed, although she had to receive immediate medical attention due to a "severe nervous crisis".
The alcohol test performed on the woman yielded a negative result.
