Uruguay closed the year 2025 with a historic trade performance. According to the annual report presented by the Uruguay XXI institute, exports of goods reached $13.493 billion, representing a 5% increase from the previous year and the highest figure in the last decade. This growth was driven by a combination of higher demand in key markets and a 19% increase in the average price per ton. The main driver of this growth was beef, which displaced cellulosa to once again become Uruguay's leading export product. The livestock sector generated $2.680 billion, marking a 33% year-on-year increase. Other standout products were soy and dairy products, with growth of 18% and 14% respectively. Meanwhile, cellulosa exports, which had led in 2024, fell 9% to $2.307 billion due to lower international prices, despite maintaining constant physical shipping volumes. China consolidated its position as Uruguay's number one strategic partner, capturing 26% of total sales worth $3.493 billion (+12%).
