The president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, decided to exclude the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, from the presidential succession ceremony. This decision also translated into the refusal to send invitations to the regimes of Venezuela and Nicaragua.
According to Lacalle Pou, the invitation for the inauguration of his successor, which will take place on March 1, will not include Díaz-Canel. This determination reflects the rejection of the governments of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.
In an interview, the Uruguayan president stated: "The presidents of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua will not be invited." Lacalle Pou indicated that this measure is due to an ideological issue, as his government does not share the same political line as these countries.
Lacalle Pou's decision to exclude Díaz-Canel from the inauguration of his successor evidences the ideological discrepancies between Uruguay and the mentioned Latin American countries.
