The 2025-2030 legislature assumed office on February 15 and will accompany Orsi's mandate with a Senate dominated by the FA and a House of Representatives without a majority. According to analysts and political leaders, it is a fact that he will run for reelection in 2029 for his National Party (PN).

The FA is a heterogeneous coalition of left and center-left founded in 1971, which suffered persecution during the dictatorship (1973-1985), made up of social democrats, Christian democrats, communists, socialists, and former Tupamaro guerrillas who implemented moderate economic policies with an emphasis on social issues during their governments. The outgoing president, Luis Lacalle Pou, is leaving with a high level of popularity of around 50 percent.

Yamandú Orsi, a 57-year-old history teacher who governed the department of Canelones (south) for a decade, will become the president of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay on March 1, thus the leftist Frente Amplio (FA) will return to power after five years in opposition.

Carolina Cosse, former mayor of Montevideo and former Minister of Industry, who competed in the FA's internal elections and then formed the presidential ticket with Orsi, will be the vice president of Uruguay and will preside over the Senate and the General Assembly.

Orsi could not be reelected to the position and was elected senator last October, but he resigned from his seat to "rest." According to his promises, he seeks to promote economic development, strengthen social protection, and improve security levels, always in compliance with the FA's program. He is recognized as a leader of dialogue and pragmatism, this report from the Xinhua news agency indicates.
