
In a commemorative event for International Women's Day, the president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, emphasized the importance of the State coordinating and connecting the three powers at a time when society shows worrying signs of violence. Orsi highlighted the commitment to improving the situation of women and the government's role in this task, specifically mentioning the vice president, Carolina Cosse.
During the event, which took place at the Government headquarters in the Executive Tower, under the slogan "When all women advance, society advances," Orsi addressed the director of the Women’s Institute, Mónica Xavier, committing to prioritize the needs and demands presented by women.
On the other hand, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Gabriel Oddone, described the economic situation of Uruguay as that of a solid country, with an investment grade and a functioning economy, although there are areas that can improve. Oddone mentioned that the country has a fiscal deficit of 3.4%, which makes it manageable but fragile, and that the economic team will work to address these challenges.
The minister highlighted the positive reputation of the country at the economic level, which attracts both foreign and domestic investments due to its reliability. According to official estimates, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would have experienced a growth of 3% in 2024, following an expansion of 0.4% in 2023.
Yamandú Orsi, a 57-year-old history professor, took office on March 1, marking the return to power of the Broad Front after five years in opposition. Orsi reiterated the importance of fighting gender violence and promoting equality between men and women as part of his governmental commitment and responsibility.
