Close Presidential Race in Uruguay: Focus on Undecided Voters

According to researcher Alejandra González from the Citizen Perception Factory, the runoff in Uruguay will be decided by the inclination of 7% of undecided voters, forecasting a close election where anything can happen. On November 24, 2.7 million eligible voters will choose the next president of the country, who will take office on March 1, 2025.

In the latest published poll, it was revealed that Orsi has a voting intention of 46%, surpassing Delgado, who would obtain 43%. Both consulting firms showed a three-point advantage for Orsi over Delgado. Orsi, 57 years old, was mayor in the Canelones department and has emerged as the left's candidate, while Delgado, 55 years old, was secretary of the Presidency and represents the Republican Coalition.

Both candidates represent the two main blocks of the Uruguayan electorate. In the first round, Orsi was the most voted with 43%, followed by Delgado with 26%. Despite the 20 points accumulated together by the Republican Coalition partners, fidelity among the voters of the blocks is different and a linear aggregation cannot be made.

Former president José Mujica, 89 years old and in delicate health, will support Orsi with tours around the country. Meanwhile, the current president, Luis Lacalle Pou, will not get involved in the campaign, acknowledging the existence of "two projects" with different priorities. The campaign for the second round for the Presidency of Uruguay is in its final stage, and Orsi and Delgado are competing for undecided voters.
