Orsi: 'Something of multilateralism survives and is in good health'

Uruguayan President YamandĂș Orsi commented on the signing of the agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur, which will create the world's largest integrated zone. Orsi noted that this is an encouraging sign that 'something of multilateralism survives and is in good health.' He confessed that at one point the suspension of the agreement, originally planned for December, led to an 'invasion' of pessimism, but fortunately, those fears were unfounded. Now, a long process lies ahead that will go through parliaments and take time. The president also emphasized that Uruguay must continue to seek new allies, both through bilateral agreements and through Mercosur, which he believes is modernizing. In this regard, Orsi stated that, given the current situation and Uruguay's characteristics, no form of cooperation should be ruled out. He also mentioned a period of agreements and analysis of various economic sectors, with the first concrete signs expected to be visible in two or three years at least. In conclusion, he noted that everyone is eagerly awaiting the long process in Europe, but Uruguay must also do its part.
