The candidate of the leftist Broad Front, Yamandú Orsi, won the Uruguayan elections held this Sunday, although he will have to face a runoff with the candidate of the National Party, the ruling Álvaro Delgado. Orsi got 43.94% of the preferences, while Delgado obtained 26.77%. "We are the party that grew the most in this election," Orsi celebrated.
Delgado, from the National Party's bunker, highlighted the voting of the Coalition, the center-right ruling grouping made up of several parties, including the Colorado Party and Cabildo Abierto. He emphasized that the coalition is the most voted political project in the country.
"We are starting a phase of a different logic, the ballots spoke, Uruguay expressed itself in democracy and freedom, and tonight Uruguay said that the coalition is the most voted political project in our country," Delgado stated. According to him, they have the responsibility to ensure that Uruguay does not regress.
The Colorado Party, represented by Andrés Ojeda, came in third place with 16.03%, while Gustavo Salle received 2.69%, finishing in fourth place. The runoff between the two most voted candidates in the first round is scheduled for November 24. This is because no political force managed to gather 50% of the preferences.
Orsi offered a speech on a stage set up on the Rambla of Montevideo, highlighting that "The Broad Front is once again the most voted party in Uruguay." He affirmed his commitment for the next 27 days in which he will prepare for the runoff with enthusiasm and determination.
