Yamandú Orsi to Take Office as President of Uruguay

The elected president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, plans to address Plaza Independencia to greet the citizens and participate in an artistic show, provided that weather conditions allow. Orsi, a 57-year-old history teacher, will return to the national government on March 1, leading the Broad Front after five years in opposition and his victory in the elections.

The inauguration ceremony of Yamandú Orsi as president of Uruguay will take place at the National Auditorium of Sodre in Montevideo instead of Plaza Independencia, as originally planned, due to the forecast of rain. The decision to move the event to the hall with a capacity for 1,800 people was made for meteorological reasons, according to the elected government.

The presidential swearing-in is scheduled for 4:30 PM local time, when Orsi will receive the presidential sash from outgoing president Luis Lacalle Pou. Additionally, the ceremony at the Legislative Palace at 2:30 PM will proceed, where the elected president and incoming vice president, Carolina Cosse, will make the Honor Commitment before the General Assembly. Afterwards, they will travel to the Adela Reta Auditorium of Sodre, covering approximately 2.5 kilometers in an electric vehicle.

The presidential handover ceremonies, as well as the swearing-in and signing of minutes by the incoming ministers, will be held at the Sodre Auditorium with the presence of foreign delegations, national authorities, and special guests, according to the official statement.
