Álvaro Delgado: Candidate for the Presidency of Uruguay

Álvaro Delgado, current candidate for the Presidency of Uruguay, remembers how at 16 he attended an event of the National Party that profoundly marked him when he witnessed in person the charismatic leader Wilson Ferreira Aldunate, recently released from prison. This event led him to get involved with the political community he now represents.

Born in 1969 in Montevideo, Álvaro Delgado grew up in the Uruguayan capital but was always connected to the rural environment due to his family's tradition in the countryside. His interest in politics emerged early and led him to support Luis Lacalle Pou on his way to the Presidency in 2014, and later to be part of the government since 2020.

Delgado, who practices boxing to disconnect from political work, emphasizes the importance of maintaining fiscal balance and preserving social policies in his country. He dreams of positioning Uruguay as the most developed country in Latin America and strives to work in that direction. Despite the demands of political life, he acknowledges the importance of family and the weight of their absences at home.

With extensive political, union, and parliamentary experience, Álvaro Delgado has dedicated himself to the certification of meat production processes and has maintained a constant effort of dialogue and coordination with various sectors. Since his beginnings in student activism, he has demonstrated his commitment to political renewal within the National Party by founding the Aire Fresco sector alongside the current Uruguayan president, Luis Lacalle Pou.
