The future of Matías Abaldo remains uncertain, as Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata and Defensor Sporting try to reach an agreement to define his destination. His representative, Edgardo Lasalvia, launched harsh criticism accusing both clubs of a lack of humanity towards the delicate moment the player is going through.
Since mid-January, Abaldo has been in Uruguay, after being granted leave for personal problems and starting psychiatric treatment. Lasalvia expressed: 'We can make La Plata with another player. Matías needs support and containment.'
Regarding the negotiation, Gimnasia seeks to restructure its debt with Defensor Sporting. The initial operation for the player's transfer was stipulated at 1,600,000 dollars, of which the club from La Plata has already paid 600,000 in two installments. Now, the 'Lobo' proposed a new payment plan that would reduce the total cost to 1,100,000 dollars, canceling the last installment.
The loan with the Uruguayan team would be for one year, until December 2025, with the obligation to return to Gimnasia if a sale does not materialize. Meanwhile, the personal situation of the player remains concerning, and his environment insists on prioritizing his well-being over contractual issues.
Abaldo continues to train alone, without a club to provide him with support. His representative reported that the negotiation for his transfer is affecting his emotional well-being: 'Gimnasia does not understand that there is a kid who wanted to kill himself.'
